Camera testing on The Highline. I’m still not comfortable posing for photos so this is the best I could do.

The Clothes Horse recently posted about wanting a new bike. I’d love to use bike riding as my mode of transportation. But ask anyone who knows me and they’ll wince. The idea of me riding a bike around New York City is just dangerous, not even just for my own life but for the public’s. Riding a bike down the beach boardwalk or around a quiet little suburb is one thing (I can do that) but I am completely envious of all these fabulously dressed women riding their bikes around major cities wearing heels and dresses and carrying things. Calivintage even has a blog dedicated to the biking babes. HOW?
I once pitched bike fashion as a topic for one of my fashion segments. My executive producer laughed at me. But seriously: how do you ride a bike and still look so fashionable?
Two of my best friends are visiting from LA tomorrow and we’re having a slumber party weekend at a hotel nearby. I think this is what they call a “stay-cation” for me? I’m packing my bags today and I like to lay everything out so I can really see what I’m bringing. Six outfits and a pile of backup clothes at the top left. I know most experts would say this is too much for four days and nights but it’s going to be at least 90 degrees every day. Fresh clothes are important.
Late summer/early fall outfit wish list. I can’t wear it now, in the back-end of this New York City heat wave, but I have the items - may as well work it.

I’ve finally settled back into home after the weekend stay-cation with the homegirls. It was a crazy weekend not just because of the heatwave but also because in the middle of entertaining the out-of-towners, I was offered two jobs; the second of which I accepted just 30 minutes after I met with them; while I was still in the Forever 21 just downstairs from their offices (a tip: it’s best not to be shopping when accepting a job offer - you end up spending more than you would have, especially considering your friend Kristine has a corporate discount).
Above: an elevator shot as we make our way up to the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the MET; the girls peeking into a closed restaurant on the Lower East Side; French toast from Clinton Street Baking Co. (which sat next to their famously delicious blueberry pancakes); lunch at the Hester Street Fair; crop tops at the Hester Street Fair; my favorite shoes this year (80%20 from Anthropologie); the view from our hotel room (what you get when you book a bargain).

The other day, I was people-watching at Chelsea Market and was so envious of a woman wearing a similar outfit to this. It wasn’t about the staple easy-going tee or the bright-colored maxi. It was all about this flower corsage/brooch in pinks, reds and oranges that really made me stare. She looked amazing. Then I saw that Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules has been wearing some too. DEFINITELY going to get me some for the end of summer and fall!

In preparation for the yanking of numbers 1 and 32 from my mouth’s collection of teeth, I borrowed DVDs from the library (I’m still technically unemployed and there’s a branch not even a two-minute walk from my front door, why not?). The New York Public Library has no vast selection so out of my visit, I borrowed An Education (finally acquaint myself with this cute girl named Carrie Mulligan), I’m Still Here (no matter how crazy Joaquin Phoenix may seem, I think we’re all the fooled ones), and Sex and the City 2 (I have no real explanation for this, but for some reason…). I decided to watch this first.
It’s even more ridiculous than the first and such a bummer experience compared to watching the first (snickering with Jules at 11pm while killing time before Jason’s 1am set time). Liza Minelli performs Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” - not just sings, performs! The clothes are amazing as usual. Carrie doesn’t have a rock on her finger, just a wedding band (something I’ve always thought about although this has me thinking a little differently and I wouldn’t mind if my Mr. Big forced me to wear it every day). And during a girls’ night out, over-the-top karaoke sesh, Carrie is wearing this half skirt over a pair of pants that I cannot stop dreaming about.

It reminds me of that episode of Friends - the first season finale where Rachel exchanges a birthday present from Monica and buys a half-skirt layered over a mini. Anyone know it? Do they still make those? I want it. Stat.
PS - one day I’ll tell you about the time I met The Blonds, the guys who made the studded shoulders Samantha’s wearing.
While I wish I could say I discovered some far off land while unemployed, I couldn’t really do that living off unemployment checks. So for the seven weeks that I was out of work, I spent a lot of time at home in New York:

Today, I go back to work at MTV2 - a new channel and different office location but the same family. It’s like the first day of school. I hope I don’t have to sit alone in the cafeteria.
On Fridays, I like to be prepared for the possibility that I may not be able to get home before going out. So I try to choose a universal outfit. I don’t necessarily think a crop top is office-appropriate but I work for MTV. Anything goes, really.
Halfway to the new office, I strolled by a rainbow. I’m trying to take it all in now before the college kids are back in town; I doubt the stoll will be as breezy as it has been.
